2004-02-15 - 9:15 p.m. I don't think my life has ever resembled my ideal situation more than it has these last few weeks. All I've done since January is read books and play frisbee. Class and work, of course, but those tends to fall in the book category; swimming, similarly, is part of training for frisbee and so is assigned accordingly. It all works. I am single. I am earning excellent grades in all my classes. I am healthy. I am enjoying my job. What have I been reading? Foucault's Pendulum, The Box Man, Love in the Time of Cholera, and a mess of other stuff. After reading The Box Man, by Japanese author Kobo Abe, I'm very tempted to re-read Murakami's The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, which is to date still the best book I have ever read. But I think I'll try to keep up this trend of newness. Would it be cheating to read some Murakami I don't know? Like Hard-Boiled Wonderland at the End of the World? Maybe I should just read this book Bruce gave me, Matthiessen's At Play in the Fields of the Lord. Where have I been playing frisbee? Well, Hanta (my college team) went to Phoenix on January 31 and February 1, where we played in the always-awesome New Year's Fest. We lost one game on Saturday (to The Hustlers, a Tucson masters team consisting largely of my friends from that town), which put us in the B-2 pool; we went 3-0 on Sunday and won a big (big) bucket of beer and ice. That was a motherfucking good weekend. I also made this webpage for my college team. I'm going with the Albuquerque co-ed team to March Madness, also in Phoenix, on the 6th and 7th. This will be the first time I fly to a tourney, but it seems that the $72 in plane ticket costs is roughly equal to the costs of mileage, gas, and missing a day of work. Go Southwest! Wow, I had a great three weeks there. I hope starting this log again doesn't jinx me. Recommend some books! This is the daily update site for my real homepage, http://www.gangway.150m.com. You should visit there after enjoying this site, as you will find out a lot of much cooler stuff about me and my life than this little free thing can provide. Not that diaryland isn't cool; it's just that the other site features many, many hours of hard work. And photos!
